Sochi views at 1910-1915

Sergey Mihajlovich Prokudin-Gorsky (1863-1944) in the beginning of 1900th years has offered the courageous plan of creation of the color photoreview of Russian empire and has got in it support of tsar Nikolay II. Since 1909 till 1912 and in 1915, travelling to the special car, the given Ministry of Transport, it has had time to finish albums only 11 regions of Empire.

At that time the color photo has not been invented yet. The idea of Prokudin-Gorsky consist in creation of three black-white photos of the same compositions which have been removed through red, dark blue and green optical filters. For restoration of the image three projectors with the same red, green and dark blue optical filters, projecting the image on one screen were used.

In 1918 Prokudin-Gorsky has left Russia. After his death, in 1948 Library of Congress of the USA has got his photoarchive. And with development of computer technics there was an opportunity of reconstruction of color photos on available black-and-white pictures through optical filters.

Here the restored photos of vicinities of Sochi of second half 10th years of XX century from a collection of Prokudin-Gorsky are presented. These are the very first color photos of Sochi.
